Mothers – A Channel of Love

A few years ago I took a year-long sabbatical from my teaching job to live in Hawaii ~ a dreamy, magical and life-altering gift of an experience in so many ways.  In my early months there, I missed my daughter in an almost supernatural way. She was then 25 and had already left the nest to live in another city three hours from Seattle.  So the intensity of this missing puzzled me a bit.  I took this as a prompt to dive deep, looking for clarity and understanding about this incredible, mysterious bond between mother and child.

Daily meditation had become something I had grown accustomed to in this more spacious way of life. And one day, while in this deep state, my own mother came to me. She was accompanied by several light beings and herself was smiling and shining so brightly with love. While she had been in physical form she was one of the most loving beings I’ve ever encountered.  And on this day I felt her love more tangibly and intensely than ever before. Her appearance in my meditation seemed to be carrying a message about my bond with my own daughter, but I was yet to fully understand it.

Until one night not long after she came to me in this dream….

Mama

I awaken from this dream. 

I am gliding through turquoise, crystalline waters with your beautiful presence beside me.  I feel the warmth of your skin as you reach for my hand, the power of your love so strong it radiates through the water to reach me. My beautiful Mother. We swim side by side towards a tumbling waterfall, its drops springing like crystals from lush green foliage.  We float there for a moment, in awe, breathless, speechless, overcome by the exquisite beauty surrounding us. I’ve never seen anything like it. Tears are flowing from my eyes, their drops swirling, becoming one with these healing waters.  Sounds of soft, melodious chanting fill the air. 

I turn to you. “Mom, isn’t this beautiful?  It is so, so beautiful,”  I whisper.

Luminous  tears continue to stream down my face, so moving is the intensity of loveliness here. You squeeze my hand, smile and nod in response, your wise, brown eyes glowing with warmth. Your eyes seem timeless, and the energy that’s surging between us and around us is other-worldly.

 And then suddenly I understood.

You have come now to show me this place where love flows like the waterfall, unencumbered and free.

To show me this pure love that is a channel between the past, the present and the future. It radiates from you to me, through me, and then reaches through me to my own beautiful daughter, who will take it and hold it and then shine it on again. 

I see her love in your love, and my love in her love, and your love in my love. Backwards, forwards, now and ahead. 

We are all connected, reflected in each other, wrapped together in the light of this pure Love.  You have shown me …. we are Home.
